On the occasion of Himachal Day, the long wait of thirty thousand meritorious schools and colleges will end. On April 15, a plan has been prepared to give laptops and smart phones to the meritorious from the hands of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur. Its approval from the Chief Minister's Office is still awaited. Laptops are to be given to 20 thousand meritorious students of the academic year 2018-19 and 2019-20 and smart phones to the students of the session 2020-21. The supply of laptops will be made available to the Education Department in the districts by April 7. The Directorate of Higher Education itself is buying smart mobile phones. The state government has decided to give laptops worth Rs 41550 per meritorious. The government has decided to give laptops to 18019 students of class 10th and 12th and 1828 meritorious colleges in the merit list for the academic session 2018-19, 2019-20.

The purchase process of laptops was affected during the last two years due to the Corona crisis. Now the company has been selected and the supply order has been placed. Under the old decision, it was agreed to give laptops worth Rs 40735 in schools and Rs 47807 in colleges. Now the government has decided to purchase at the same rate for all the students. Now the price per laptop has been fixed at Rs 40735. Laptop will be taken from the company for Rs 41550 including GST. For the meritorious academic session 2020-21 and 2021-22, the government has decided to provide smart mobile phones. The Directorate of Higher Education has also started the process of procurement of smart phones. Smart mobile phones will be given to the meritorious candidates of the year 2020-21 on 15th April.
