India-Russia Relation: Relations between India and Russia are very old and deep. Since 2014, these relations have become even stronger. The friendship between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin is often discussed. Although after the start of the Russia-Ukraine war, it was said that India could go against its oldest friend, but India did not do so. He appealed to both the countries for peace and stop war. India remained away from this issue even on forums like the United Nations.

S. Jaishankar on five-day visit to Russia

Now to further strengthen the relationship between India and Russia, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has gone on a five-day tour of Russia. Here he met Russian President Putin. During this, President Vladimir Putin invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Russia next year. Putin told Jaishankar, "We will be happy to see our friend Prime Minister Modi in Russia." Jaishankar, who is here on a five-day official visit to Russia, earlier met his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov. Addressing a joint press conference after his talks with Lavrov, Jaishankar said he was confident that Prime Minister Modi and President Putin would meet at the annual summit next year.

Both the leaders have been in constant touch – Jaishankar

Earlier in his opening remarks, Jaishankar said that the two leaders have been in constant touch. Jaishankar said in a post on 'X', "Met President Vladimir Putin this evening. On behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he congratulated him and handed over a personal message. Informed President Putin of my discussions with Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Appreciated his guidance on taking forward the relations between the two countries.'' The summit between the Prime Minister of India and the President of Russia is the highest institutional dialogue mechanism in the strategic partnership between the two sides.

21 annual summits have been held so far

So far, 21 annual summits have been held alternately between India and Russia. The last summit was held in New Delhi in December 2021. Putin also said that trade between Russia and India is growing, especially in crude oil and high technology sectors. He said, “Our business is growing at a steady pace for the second consecutive year. This year the growth rate is even higher than last year.
