Bangalore Eidgah Maidan Case: A new bench heard the Idgah case of Bangalore today. The new bench has ordered both the sides to maintain status quo today. This means there will be no Ganesh Utsav tomorrow. On Tuesday, the Supreme Court referred the matter to the bench of the Chief Justice. The Supreme Court says that the matter should be placed before the Chief Justice of India because there is no consensus between the two judges hearing the matter. After this, the lawyers mentioned the matter before the bench of Chief Justice of India UU Lalita. CJI UU Lalit constituted a three-judge bench, comprising Justice Indira Banerjee, Justice AS Oak and Justice Sundaresh, to hear the matter.

The Karnataka Waqf Board has challenged in the Supreme Court the order of the Karnataka High Court, which allowed Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations at the Idgah ground in Chamarajpet, Bengaluru. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing the Muslim body, said unnecessary religious tension was being created in the area. Last week, the Karnataka High Court granted permission to hold Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations at the Idgah ground in Chamarajpet, Bengaluru.

The High Court had said that the government can take a decision to allow the festival on the ground. The court passed the order after the state government filed an appeal challenging the August 25 interim order to maintain status quo. The High Court amended the interim order. The court directed the state government to consider applications seeking use of the land for religious and cultural activities for a limited period with effect from August 31.
