Delhi: Opposition parties have started preparing for the presidential election. But this time the scene has changed. Regional parties of Hindi speaking states once played an important role in this. Now this command is in the hands of the leaders of non-Hindi speaking states. Following the activism of Telangana Chief Minister KCR Rao, on Wednesday, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee took charge of uniting the opposition. If the experts are to be believed, the BJP's strong in the Hindi region is the biggest reason for this.

Both MLAs and MPs participate in the presidential election. In this sense, the Congress still has the maximum number of votes. But the Congress is failing to unite the regional parties as a national party. There are also many regional political equations behind this because in many states there is a contest between the Congress and the regional parties. Many states including UP, Bihar have more than one regional party. There is no less difficulty in bringing them on one platform.

In fact, regional parties in the opposition have a reason for the low activity of senior leaders. Leaders like Mulayam Singh Yadav of SP, Lalu Prasad and Sharad Yadav of RJD used to be very active on such occasions but they are less active now due to various reasons. This is the reason why leaders of non-Hindi speaking states like Mamata Banerjee, KCR Rao of TRS are filling this gap. He has been very active on the issues of national politics for some years. The Trinamool Congress seems to be battling the ruling party the most in the Parliament. At present, only NCP's Sharad Pawar is active among the old leaders. He is playing the role as much as possible.

Regional parties are not weak: Mehta

Political professor Subodh Kumar Mehta says that such an atmosphere has been created in the Hindi regions that BJP is strong and regional parties are weakening. Actually it is not so. BJP is definitely strong in UP. Despite this, the presence of SP is good. RJD in Bihar, Congress is strong in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan. Similarly, the opposition is strong in Haryana, Punjab and Delhi. Since the vote of the legislators also plays a role in these elections, the importance of regional parties remains intact. The only real need is to unite him.

Government's initiative can yield positive results

The talks with leaders of all the parties started by the BJP and the central government for the presidential election can yield positive results. The effort of the government and the BJP is to create a consensus on one name. Its leaders Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP President JP Nadda are discussing with the leaders of various parties and taking their suggestions regarding the candidate.

The process of nomination for the Presidential election has started from Wednesday and June 29 is the last date. In such a situation, from the very first day itself, the government has started dialogue with more than a dozen major parties and their leaders. The BJP leaders asked the opposition leaders to name their names which the government would seriously consider and try to form an opinion. However, on behalf of the opposition, the government has asked for the names of its candidates.
