Today I was scheduled to go to Delhi for regular health checkup, but I am not going. I am perfectly fine and can challenge my doctor for boxing as well. Tibetan religious leader Dalai Lama said this on Friday while reassuring his well-wishers about his health.

The Dalai Lama was teaching his followers offline for the first time after a long gap of two years due to the Corona pandemic. He said that Tibet has a tradition of reciting Jataka tales after the holy Losar festival. During this, the Dalai Lama also gave a brief education to the people present about the stories of the previous birth of Mahatma Buddha i.e. Jataka tales.

Describing the importance of Tibetan language to Tibetans at the event, he said that King Strode Chad Gumpo felt the need for Tibetans to have a language of their own. Then he made Sanskrit language the basis of Devanagari script instead of Chinese or Pali language for the development of Tibetan language.

The 8th century king got about 100 sutras of Buddhism and 200 scriptures translated into Tibetan. Thus there is a rich literature in Tibetan language with about 300 books. He said that Chinese food is certainly delicious, but when it comes to alphabets, Tibetan is the best. He said that Tibetan language is a matter of pride for us.

After that, he told the school children the importance of Tibetan language and said that I had sought help from former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to set up such schools where Tibetan children can get education in Tibetan. He said Tibetans in India and elsewhere feel their own traditions, religion and culture closely, even if they are physically in exile.

After this, a program to generate bodhichitta or awakened mind was also organized in the main Tibetan monastery at Sugalkhang here. After about two years, a large number of his followers were present in the program going offline.

Offline teaching was given in December 2019 before Corona

Religious leader Dalai Lama gave offline teaching for the last time in December 2019. After this, after the knock of Kovid in China, from January 2020, religious leader Dalai Lama stopped offline teaching and meeting outsiders. The Dalai Lama came out of his residence only once to get the vaccine up to the zonal hospital.

He took the second vaccine at his home. After this, after the second wave of Corona subsided, from 15 December, the Dalai Lama started meeting the world's leading people. The Dalai Lama met for the first time with the Tibetan government-in-exile Prime Minister Pempa Tsering and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat at his McLeodganj residence. Now on Friday, after two years, the Dalai Lama himself came to the main Buddhist temple and taught the followers.
