Indian Cricket Team: India had to face defeat against England in the semi-finals of T20 World Cup 2022. After this defeat, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a big step. The board on Friday (November 18) sacked the national selection committee headed by Chetan Sharma. The sacked selectors include Chetan Sharma (North Zone), Harvinder Singh (Central Zone), Sunil Joshi (South Zone) and Debashish Mohanty (East Zone).

BCCI has now invited applications for a total of five posts including Chief Selector. BCCI said, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invites applications for the post of National Selectors (Senior Men's Team). Candidates who wish to apply for the said post must satisfy the criteria for considering their application.

Only those former cricketers who have played at least 7 Tests or 30 first class matches or 10 ODIs and 20 first class matches will be able to apply for the post of selectors. Also retired from cricket at least 5 years ago. Not only this, any former cricketer who has been a member of any cricket committee for a total of 5 years will not be eligible to become a member of the men's selection committee. The last date to apply is November 28 (till 5 pm).

World Cup defeat had to bear the consequences

The direct reason for sacking Chetan Sharma and his entire team is the defeat of Team India in the last two World Cups. After the defeat of both the tournaments, questions were constantly being raised on the selection of the players, due to which the BCCI has discharged Chetan and his entire team. Not only this. BCCI has also taken out the application to fill these posts.

Questions were raised on the selection of players

India had lost to England in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. There are victories and defeats, but when a team loses by 10 wickets in such a big match, then it is bound to raise questions. After being out of the semi-finals, many questions were also raised on the team selection. Along with this, issues like Chahal not getting a place in the playing-11, lack of part-time bowlers and slow batting during the powerplay also dominated. India last won an ICC tournament in 2013 under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Since then he is waiting for the title.

Chetan remained in the post for almost two years

BCCI's Senior Men's Selection Committee was announced on 24 December 2020. Then Chetan Sharma was made its head. The tenure of the senior national selector is usually four years and it can be extended even further. Chetan Sharma played 23 Tests and 65 ODIs for India. Chetan Sharma took 61 wickets in Tests, while 67 wickets in ODIs. Chetan Sharma took a memorable hat-trick against New Zealand in the 1987 World Cup.
