Tata Capital is going to launch an IPO of Rs 17,200 crore from September 22, which can take the company's valuation to $ 11 billion. Tata Sons will sell 23 crore shares in the IPO. This can become the largest public issue in India's financial sector.

Tata Capital IPO: Tata Group's non-banking financial company (NBFC) Tata Capital is all set to bring its much-awaited Rs 17,200 crore IPO in the week starting September 22. Market sources told PTI on Sunday that the valuation of Tata Capital is expected to be around $11 billion through this IPO. According to sources, the company may be listed on the stock market by September 30.

IPO structure and Tata Sons' stake

According to the draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) filed in August, this IPO will consist of 47.58 crore shares. This includes a fresh issue of 21 crore equity shares and an offer for sale (OFS) of 26.58 crore shares. Under the OFS, Tata Sons will sell 23 crore shares, while the International Finance Corporation (IFC) will sell 3.58 crore shares. Tata Sons currently holds 88.6% stake in Tata Capital, while IFC holds 1.8% stake.

SEBI approval and capital utilisation plan

Tata Capital had submitted documents for its IPO with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on 7 April. On June 21, SEBI approved the company to bring IPO. Tata Capital will use the funds raised from this IPO to strengthen its tier-1 capital base and meet capital requirements, including future borrowings. If this IPO is successful, it will become the largest public issue in India's financial sector. This will be the second company of the Tata Group to bring an IPO in recent years. Earlier, Tata Technologies' IPO came in November 2023.

Tata Capital's performance in the current financial year

Tata Capital has performed brilliantly in the first quarter (April-June) of the current financial year 2025. The company's total net profit more than doubled to Rs 1040.93 crore, from Rs 472 crore in the same quarter of the previous financial year. Apart from this, the total income of the company also increased to Rs 7691.65 crore, from Rs 6557.40 crore in the same quarter last year.
