Special | A video of a teacher repeatedly slapping a student in a private coaching center in Jammu and Kashmir is going viral. It has created a rage all over Kashmir. The district administration has issued summons to the coaching center. The police have also registered a case.

In this 44-second video, the teacher, identified as Fayyaz Ahmed Wagay, can be seen slapping the student. During this time, the accused teacher must have slapped the student at least 18. This video of Srinagar-based Hope Classes is viral on social media. It appears in the video that the student did not ask permission from the accused teacher about anything. However, clearly nothing can be said about it at the moment.

"We have registered a case in the incident," said Rais Hussain, the station house officer of Sadar police station. At the same time, Additional District Magistrate Srinagar has asked the Managing Director of the coaching center to appear in the court on Thursday. An official communiqué states, "This frightening action has caused a lot of resentment among the local people and this can have a great psychological impact on the student."

It said that Section 17 of the Right to Education Act 2009 prescribes disciplinary action against a person convicted of corporal punishment. The Chief Education Officer of Srinagar has recommended the case for strict action against the convicted teacher and the institute.

Wage, the teacher concerned, told a local newspaper that he wanted the student well, but lost control. She said, "I am worried about the study of these students, but I lost my control and accidentally slapped him like this."

The Coaching Center Association of Kashmir (CCAK) has also expressed disappointment over the incident and constituted a committee to look into the matter and recommend measures so that such incidents do not occur in future. People expressed their anger against the teacher as well as the Coaching Center Association.
