World Athletics Championship: Neeraj Chopra, the first Indian athlete to win gold in the Olympics in 120 years, has now created history in the World Championships as well. Neeraj has won gold in javelin throw at the World Athletics Championships held in Budapest. In the final, he achieved golden success with his best effort of 88.17m. This championship is being held since 1983 and for the first time an Indian athlete has won the gold medal. Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan won the silver. He took out the best effort of 87.82 meters.

This is India's overall third medal in the World Athletics Championships. Neeraj had won silver in the last season. Women's long jumper Anju Bobby George won the bronze medal in Paris 20 years ago in 2003.

Neeraj became the first Indian to win a medal in the Olympics

Neeraj has become the first Indian athlete to win both Olympic and World Championship gold simultaneously. He won gold in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. India has been participating in the Olympics since the year 1900, but before Neeraj, no Indian had won a medal of any colour, let alone gold, in track and field events. Prior to Neeraj, Milkha Singh and PT Usha's fourth-place finish in separate Olympics was India's best performance.

Tough challenge for Neeraj from Pakistan's Nadeem

In the final event, Indian star Neeraj Chopra faced a tough challenge from his Pakistani rival Arshad Nadeem, although Nadeem could never get past Neeraj. Read further the thrill of the final in different attempts...

First: Neeraj's first throw was foul Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra started with a foul. Finland's Oliver Helander shot 83.38m in the first attempt to remain on top. Neeraj Chopra's attempt was foul and he remained at number 12. Kishore Jena threw 75.6 and DP Manu threw 78.44 metres. Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan threw the javelin up to a distance of 74.80 metres.

Second: Topper Neeraj Neeraj scored the best score of 88.17m in the second attempt in the javelin final and secured the first position. Which lasted till the end. In the second attempt, Kishore Jena threw 82.82 and Arshad of Pakistan threw 82.81 metres. DP Manu's throw was a foul, while Germany's Julian Weber finished second with a throw of 85.79m and Czech Republic's Jakub Wadlech third with a throw of 84.18m.

Third: Arshad throws season's best In the third attempt, Neeraj threw 86.32 meters, followed by Arshad Nadeem with 87.82 meters thrower number-2 position. While Kishore Jena's third attempt was foul, Manu threw 83.73 metres.

Fourth: Arshad again crossed 87 meters, Neeraj threw 84.64 meters in the fourth attempt, while Arshad once again came close to Neeraj's best throw in this throw, he threw 87.15 meters, but could not come first. Kishore Jena threw 80.19 meters in the fourth attempt, while Manu's throw was fouled.

Fifth: Neeraj also went above 87 meters, Kishore's personal best

Jakub Vadlech of the Czech Republic finished third in the fifth attempt with a throw of 86.67m. Neeraj scored 87.73m in this attempt, while Arshad's throw was foul. Kishore Jena threw the javelin with his best throw of 84.77m and reached number five. Manu finished sixth with a throw of 83.48 metres.

Neeraj did the best javelin throw of the season in the qualifying round

Neeraj threw 88.77m in his very first attempt of the qualifying round, which was his season's best score. Along with this, he also got the ticket for Paris Olympics.

Neeraj had achieved his season's best of 88.67m at the Doha Diamond League in May this year. Besides winning gold medals at the Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, the 25-year-old Neeraj Chopra is also a Diamond League champion.

Got silver last year

Neeraj Chopra had won the historic silver medal in the last season of this championship. Neeraj Chopra had thrown the javelin 88.39 meters in the competition held in Oregon. He ended India's long wait of 19 years for the medal.

Indian team finished at number 5 in Men's 4x400m relay event

The Indian team finished 5th in the men's 4x400m relay event of the championships. The Indian team was challenging for the first time in the final race. The quartet of Mohammad Anas, Amoj, Mohammad Ajmal and Rajesh Ramesh covered the distance of 1600 meters in 2 minutes 59.92 seconds. The team had broken the Asian record in the heats on Saturday with a timing of 2:59.05.

In this event USA (2 min 57.31 sec) got gold, France (2 min 58.45 sec) silver and Great Britain (2 min 58.71 sec) bronze.
