The police immediately intervened and took the accused into custody. Senior police officers reached the spot and investigation into the matter has been started.

Shailendra Kumar of Uttam Nagar, who was present during the incident, said, "I had come with a complaint about the sewer. When I reached the gate, this incident happened. There was a ruckus there after the CM was slapped. This is wrong." Another eyewitness Anjali said, "Everyone has the right to public hearing. If someone can slap someone by mistake, then this is a very serious matter. I was there, that person was saying something and suddenly he attacked."

Delhi BJP and Congress condemned

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva strongly condemned the attack and said, "The Chief Minister works day and night for the service of the people. This attack is condemnable. All the facts will come out through police investigation." He said that the Chief Minister's condition is stable and doctors have examined her. "Rekha Gupta is a strong woman. She has a minor injury on her head, but she is fine. The work of public hearing will continue."

Delhi minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa termed it a political conspiracy and said, "This attack is a conspiracy of rivals. They cannot tolerate that the Chief Minister remains among the public for hours. Delhi Police is investigating it thoroughly."

Delhi Congress President Devendra Yadav also condemned the incident. He said, "This is very sad. The Chief Minister leads Delhi. This incident exposes the reality of women's safety. If the Chief Minister is not safe, how can a common woman be safe?"
