New Delhi. India's young chess player R Pragananda defeated world champion Magnus Carlsen for the second time in a year. 16-year-old Grandmaster Pragnanda defeated Carlsen of Norway in the Chessable Masters online rapid chess tournament. The amazing thing is that Pragnanda won over Carlsen for the second time in just 3 months.

The match of the 5th round of the tournament was heading towards a draw but a move by World Champion Magnus Carlsen turned them down. He had to face defeat because of his mistake. Despite the victory, Pragananda did not look happy. Pragananda, who hails from Chennai, said after the match, 'I didn't want to win like this.'

With this victory, Indian Grandmaster Pragananda has now reached the 5th position in the leaderboard. Carlsen is third with 12 points and China's Wei Yi is on top with 18 points at the end of the second day of the tournament. In 2016, Pragananda became the youngest player to win the International Masters. Then his age was 10 years 10 months and 19 days.

Pragananda, who won the World Youth Championship Under-8 title in 2013, also defeated Carlsen in the AirThings Masters online rapid tournament in February this year. He became the third Indian after Viswanathan Anand and Harikrishna to beat Carlsen in any time format.
